One Reason You Didn’t Get Anything Done Today

YOUR LAZY

Yes I said it.

You could have achieved so many goals today, but you didn’t.

Today I took a day off. I had plans to accomplish so much, yet I accomplished nothing. You want to know why? I MADE EXCUSES

I have a flare up.

I wish I didn’t have this disease.

I slept some more.

I watched TV.

I did everything but what I had planned.

The biggest lie you will ever tell yourself is “I will get back on schedule tomorrow”. What if there is no tomorrow? Do you know what happens when you continue to say you will get it done tomorrow? You NEVER get it done.

Below is a short list of lies that are causing you to procrastinate on your goals. This list is just a sample, what other lies are you telling yourself?

  • I will get back on schedule tomorrow.
  • I am tired, I need sleep.
  • I have all weekend off; I can get it done then. Let’s just relax tonight.
  • I should really hang out with _____. I never see them (so my goals can wait)
  • It really won’t take that long; I have this afternoon to work on it.

“Someday is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you.” Tim Ferriss

Some days when you have a flare up and have no choice but to stay in bed. Some days you are so mentally drained that you don’t achieve any goals. Below is a list of tips to get you through those days.

Just think, “Am I letting my disease control my life, or am I fighting every chance I get”.

How do you stop trying to get on schedule tomorrow, and get on schedule today?

1) Start with a morning routine.

Hate the morning? Get over it. The vast majority of CEOs and high achievers have a set morning routine. Think that their success is correlated to having a morning routine? I think so. Read this article on how to set up the proper morning routine, start one tomorrow.

2) Gain some motivation.

Sometimes it just takes a small kick in the ass to get you on track. Getting into a good routine is the first step. It takes time to make something a habit. Begin by reading this article on building motivation. Then, remember that at first new habits suck but after a while the habit will become part of your daily routine.

3) Use a “do it now” mentality.

Every time you have a task in front of you that you could wait on, do it that moment. Dishes in the sink? Wash them as soon as you see them. Bed is a mess? Make it. House is a mess? Clean it. When you procrastinate on small tasks you are teaching yourself to procrastinate on your goals. Once you start to complete the small tasks, you will feel like you have accomplished something, and will want to get going on your bigger goals.

Worried that you are so far gone that you can’t get back on track? Read this article by Dr. Shelia Cornea on how to get your life back.

The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Admit that you are lying to yourself, and you might just start achieving the goals you have dreamed of.

My disease can’t stop me will it stop you?

  1. This approach doesn’t work for all chronic illness. I had the mindset that I should just keep going and it complicated my condition further meaning I needed physio because my muscles had overworked so much from pain + activity. I ended up hospitilised and man, did my condition stop me then.

I’d recommend pacing and hightening awareness of one’s own body so you can really see are you feeling down and apathetic, scared of pain or actually likely to make yourself worse from doing things.

That’s not to say I don’t agree with this post, just that it may be shaming to people who cannot apply this to their lives. Keep up the good work <3
